MC GUIRE, [MARGARET C.] PEGGY. Untitled (West-Indian Market Place). Oil on illustration board, 48x601/2 inches, mounted on a sturdy wood frame. Signed and dated in oil, lower right. The remnants of an exhibition card attached to the frame reads "National Academy of Design." Shows a scene in an obviously West-Indian or Caribbean open air market, painted in rich earth colors. The records of the Society of Independent Artists (Founded by Joseph Stella and others in 1916) list several of Ms. McGuire's works at exhibits in the 1920s and 1930s. The present work appears to have been in one of the National Academy of Design's annual exhibits.
